Predicting a Song’s Audience

My roleChief Design Officer: UX architecture, brand strategy
PlatformAI-driven prediction of music viability
UsersUnsigned musicians
CompanyStartup

The Challenge

The music industry relies on guesswork to predict audience demographics and commercial potential.

The Strategy

As Chief Design Officer, I designed platforms that replace guesswork with data. I led the UX architecture and brand strategy for Rocketship, an AI-driven platform that evaluates 80 audio, lyrical and contextual parameters to predict a song’s audience and commercial potential.

I translated complex LLM outputs and data sets into highly intuitive, user-friendly dashboards.

Rocketship brand mark, the marketing site, a data visualization of 4.2M fans sorted by gender, age and social platform, a world fan map, and the AI chat workspace.

The Impact

  • Unsigned musicians can now discover where the fans for a given song are, how to reach them and what to say.

Evergreen Music Program

My roleCreative Director, Program Architect, Content Strategist
Duration9 consecutive years
Team7 in-house · 22 long-term contractors
TouchpointsSocial content, video, live events, livestream

The Challenge

Ford needed a sustainable, authentic way to build brand affinity with entirely new, younger demographics without relying on traditional, interruptive automotive advertising. They needed a content engine that felt native to the culture.

The Strategy

Instead of forcing musicians into car commercials, we put Ford in the passenger seat of the artists’ lives. I built an evergreen music program that paired Ford with top-tier musicians to create bite-sized, highly shareable social content.

The strategy was to leverage the artists’ existing organic reach by telling their authentic stories—while subtly integrating the brand.

The Execution

Over 9 years, I led the creative direction across all touchpoints, from digital hub UX to video production and live event integration, including Meet & Greets and livestream concerts.

The Impact

3B+Total impressions
9Consecutive years leading the creative vision
  • Turned a single campaign into an evergreen program Ford renewed for 9 consecutive years.
  • Drove measurable customer leads for Ford dealers.
  • Made culture-first content, not interruptive ads, the core of Ford’s music strategy.
United States Marine Corps (USMC)

Music-Led Recruitment

My roleCreative Director, Digital Strategy, UX Architecture
Duration4 years
Team4 in-house · 16 long-term contractors
JourneySocial story → lead capture → livestream concert

The Challenge

The USMC needed to reach a highly specific, younger target demographic and their influencers. Traditional military recruitment advertising often feels institutional; the challenge was to create an emotional, authentic connection that could drive actual lead generation and engagement in a crowded digital space.

The Strategy

Authenticity cannot be faked. We identified and partnered with high-profile musicians who had genuine, existing familial ties to the Marines.

I directed a digital ecosystem that moved users from passive social consumption to active engagement. Instead of a hard sell, I designed a user journey where fans consumed the artists’ personal Marine Corps stories, which then funneled them into a lead-capture mechanism offering tickets to an exclusive livestream concert.

USMC campaign: a Marines recruitment poster, a livestream registration page for an exclusive Lecrae performance, and the Lecrae video hero.

The Impact

  • Connected organic music culture to military recruitment through artists with real Marine Corps ties.
  • Built an end-to-end lead funnel that turned story viewers into qualified leads through livestream ticket sign-ups.
  • Directed one continuous experience, from the first social touchpoint to the live virtual concert.
McDonald’s & Dr Pepper

High-Volume Consumer Campaigns

My roleCreative Director, Campaign Architect
Duration8 years

AudienceGen Z and Millennials

The Challenge

Global legacy brands like McDonald’s and Dr Pepper face a constant battle for cultural relevance among Gen Z and Millennials. The objective was to earn attention inside the music culture their audiences already loved, rather than interrupt it with ads.

The Strategy

I led the creative execution of high-velocity, culture-first campaigns that shifted the brands from “interrupting the content” to “being the content.” McDonald’s partnered with 15 artists, including GAYLE, Bryce Vine and BRELAND; Dr Pepper partnered with 8, including Russell Dickerson, Kane Brown and Maddie & Tae.

I oversaw the UX and digital design of promotional hubs that served as the engine for these campaigns. The design had to balance the strict, established brand guidelines of McDonald’s and Dr Pepper with the edgy, dynamic visual identities of the featured artists.

McDonald’s and Dr Pepper campaign work: artist social posts, the GAYLE summer sweepstakes page, the Dr Pepper Kane Brown VIP sweepstakes hub, and partner photography.

The Impact

  • Built 23 artist partnerships across the two brands.
  • Designed digital ecosystems built to absorb massive traffic spikes during campaign bursts.
  • Grew brand affinity with Gen Z and Millennial audiences by putting both brands inside the music they already followed.
  • Delivered a frictionless experience that maximized data capture and promotional participation.
AARP

Music & Brain Health

My roleCreative Director, UX Lead
Duration4 years
Team5 in-house · 36 long-term contractors
Audience50+, increasingly digital

The Challenge

AARP required a highly nuanced approach to user experience and brand messaging. The challenge was modernizing the brand’s perception for a demographic that is rapidly becoming more digitally native.

The Strategy

I directed an AARP virtual concert series connecting music and brain health, pairing the brand with artists including Debbie Gibson, Rod Stewart and MC Lyte.

The UX architecture and creative direction were built around reducing friction and building trust, from campaign creative to a simple RSVP flow to the livestream itself.

AARP virtual concert campaign: artist promos, event announcements for Debbie Gibson and Eric Benét celebrating music and brain health, an RSVP landing page on a laptop, the AARP Magazine cover, and a live concert performance.

The Impact

  • Modernized how AARP is perceived by rebuilding its digital touchpoints.
  • Raised engagement with UX designed around the audience’s life stage, removing friction and building trust.

About me

Portrait of Ryan Whisenhunt

My name is Ryan Whisenhunt, and I work where brand, product and AI meet, and I design them as one system.

As a Chief Design Officer and Creative Director, I lead teams from the first strategic question to the shipped experience, including blended in-house and contractor teams of up to 53 people. I build brand platforms that hold up in the real world, UX architecture that scales, and AI-driven products that feel like the brand rather than a bolt-on.

My work runs on culture-first thinking: meet audiences where they already are, earn attention instead of interrupting it, and measure it in outcomes. That approach powered nine years of Ford’s music program and 3B+ impressions, and 23 artist partnerships for McDonald’s and Dr Pepper. Today, as Chief Design Officer at Rocketship, I’m building the AI that gives independent artists the same audience intelligence those brands paid for.
